For the past 10 years volunteers on Herm have taken part in the Marine Conservation Society’s annual beachwatch campaign. This involves clearing the rubbish and then logging each item. At a glance it would appear that Herm’s beaches are relatively litter free but this year the twenty-seven volunteers who took part found almost 22kg of rubbish – this included a drain pipe which was found by John and Julia Singer on North Beach!
A big thank you to all those who took part: regular Herm holiday guests, geography students from Elizabeth College and island residents.
