Herm Harbour on a busy summer day

by Herm, Thursday 12 August 2010 08:46

As I arrived at Herm harbour after walking down the hill I came across a hive of activity!  It was lovely to see children leaning over the wall seeing who could catch the most crabs, a harbour full of boats, cargo being unloaded and two lasers sailing around Herm just as the mid-morning Trident arrived full of visitors.  Twenty minutes later the crowds had dispersed, the tractors delivering the cargo had gone on their way so all that was left was the delightful sound of excited children as they caught a few more crabs!

I visit Herm most years. This year was the same. One of the high light is to visit the Mermade for a pint. It has alway felt like a pub should be. But not any more. The hart has bee riped out of the Mermaid, just to add a few more tables and carpet. I own 67 pubs, now the Mermaid is just like them.I admit i own them just to make money. But for the firt time i think that is the sole reason of Herm. The cheep extention to the office at the harbour. Not in keeping. a good brush through the village would not go a miss.It was always done before the 10.30 boat, so the local staff tell me.
Ispoke to people on the lower campsite. They are of the opinion that Herm has canged but its not for the better.
Come back Mr Heyworth.

Thank you for your comments.  Whenever anything changes there are always some who aren't happy with what has been done.  However, we have received many positive comments on the recent refurbishment of The Mermaid Tavern.
We hope to see you again next year!
