Herm residents trained to save lives

by Herm, Thursday 21 October 2010 14:06

This summer 10 Herm residents have been trained by St. John Ambulance and Rescue staff, Graham Le Maitre and Dean de la Mare to deal with incidents including those requiring resuscitation and defibrillation.  The First Aiders have now received their certificates which were presented to them by chief ambulance officer Jon Beausire.

There has always been a small team of First Aiders on Herm but that number has now increased and the volunteers have a higher level of training to the standard set by the Institute of Health and Care Development’s First Person on the Scene course.  Paramedic tutors travelled to Herm for four full days of tuition.  In June the ‘First Responders’ had to sit a written exam and deal with four practical scenarios.

Although the course was quite intense and required a number of hours learning outside the class room, fun was had by all who took part!
