On Friday 2nd September Herm’s hospitality director, Jonathan Watson completed the round Guernsey kayak challenge. He found the event both mentally and physically tough in places, but enjoyed the rewarding feeling once he had finished! In total, the trip was 27.1 miles and he finished it in 8 hours and 20 minutes. Twenty-four kayakers took on the challenge, and all finished very close to each other.
The challenge started and finished at Portelet. The last leg back to Portelet was made more difficult with the fog that descended, and the fact that the kayakers had to go around the back of Lihou as the passage was dry. With the help of a GPS the team found their way home.

In total, to date, Jonathan has raised £4834.64 for a village in the Namachete region of Malawi. More details of the village and details on how to add to Jonathan’s sponsorship can be found at http://www.justgiving.com/jonathanwatson2011
Jonathan’s original goal was to raise £5k, by setting himself 4 challenges. The first was the Guernsey quarter marathon which he completed in 54 minutes, the second was the Herm run which I did in 25 mins and 20 seconds, and the third was to take part in the Channel Island Skills Academy team to run the Guernsey marathon as part of a relay which they managed in 3 hours and 48 minutes. The final and toughest challenge was the round Guernsey Kayak which was organised by Crimestoppers.
