Plane lands on Herm

by herm, Monday 10 October 2011 07:08

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Guernsey Model Club a Piper Cub replica was flown between Guernsey and Herm.  Five pilots flew the 2.44 metre wingspan aircraft which took off from Bordeaux, Guernsey.  The pilots had three controllers all operating on the same frequency so they did not have to hand them over each time.  The flight lasted about 15 minutes each way.

Flying the plane over the sea was a challenge as the boat couldn’t keep up with the plane so it had to fly in circles while it caught up!

Huge thanks from the Guernsey Model Club to Simon George and the Island's administration for allowing our club to undertake the landing and subsequent take off in Herm.

The project was so successful, we are looking to a new challenge for 2012... maybe a 3 way island hop... who knows?

Thanks Herm!
