The little church on Herm, St. Tugual’s, has been the responsibility of the States of Guernsey since 1946, and is listed on the States Register of Ancient Monuments and Protected Buildings.
St. Tugual’s Chruch has been affected by dampness caused by the deteriorating condition of the roof covering, the wall pointing and the external ground levels. As a result it has become necessary to carry out repair and consolidation works to address its condition.
The works to the Chapel will involve re-roofing, re-pointing, re-rendering and the installation of new drainage to the South side of the Chapel. The purpose of these works is to reduce the dampness and allow the building to breathe as it traditionally would have.
The work has started so St. Tugual’s church is now closed to the public.
The Brecqhou Warrior cargo boat was used to transport the scaffolding and building equipment to Herm. The Brecqhou Warrior is significantly larger than the Herm cargo boat, Herm SeaHorse so all the gear was transported in one go.
