On Saturday 12th February 2011 my family and I celebrated our 16th Herm anniversary. The day we arrived on Herm in 1995 was a beautiful, calm, sunny spring-like day. Ask any Hermite and they will remember the day they arrived to live on Herm. One of the things that stands out in my mind was the number of daffodils flowering at the side of The Drive. We had moved from Leicestershire and there was definitely no daffodils flowering in the garden there! Now I always check the number of daffodils in flower on February 12th – this year only two were, possibly an indication of the cold weather we experienced in December! I did another ‘spring check’ this morning when I walked around the east coast cliff path in glorious sunshine. It’s going to be a bit longer before the primroses are in flower! The foliage is there but no sign of any buds.
The photos below are of Camellias which are flowering at the side of The Drive and also some strange funghi which have also appeared! The Herm gardener’s Brett and James did some clearing on the hill and Brett created the ‘fun funghi’ out of some small tree trunks!
