Island Life

Thank you for visiting our Island website. We hope you find its content useful and informative.

On 1st October 2008 the lease of Herm Island was purchased by a new company, Herm Island Ltd, a company owned by the Starboard Settlement, from the Heyworth and Wood families, who had managed Herm since 1949. The new owners have pledged to continue the excellent work of the Heyworth's and to ensure that the island will remain the Jewel in the Crown of the Channel Islands.

There will continue to be no cars, no hurries and no pressure to do anything but delight in Herm's natural splendour. Expect to be captivated as you set foot on the shore on Herm.

Encounter the charm of Herm still further by staying on the Island, either in the Highly Commended White House Hotel, with excellent sea views, cosy lounges, sumptuous food, and one of the most extensive and best valued wine lists in the Bailiwick. Or enjoy the freedom of self-catering in a comfortable log cabin or a cottage in the Manor village. Camping on Herm has become extremely popular amongst the residents of Guernsey due to the stunning views and family friendly atmosphere on our campsite. No visit to the island would be complete without browsing in the Gift Shops and sampling the hospitality at the Mermaid Tavern. Either way, we are confident that you will be delighted to spend a few nights on Herm.

For Guernsey residents John and Julia Singer, the change of ownership was a dream come true. John is Starboard's property manager and John & Julia immediately moved to Herm.

Herm Island is now managed by a board of directors; Andrew Bailey is Finance and Administration Director, Jonathan Watson is Hospitality Director, Simon George is Technical Director and John Singer is Island Director. Andrew, Jonathan and Simon have been Herm residents for a number of years, have raised young families in the island and are probably well known to many visitors already. Together we promise that the governing principles of the Herm lease will remain unchanged, namely to ensure that the Island's natural attractions and peacefulness are preserved and made available to all who visit Herm.

We hope that you will one day travel to Herm and enjoy all that our island has to offer.
