DOG FRIENDLY HERM
Herm Island warmly welcomes dog owners and their four-legged friends. Please see below for details of dog-friendly accommodation, dining and beach access and please do not hesitate to give us a call if you have any queries about visiting Herm with your dog(s).
Dogs in Accommodation
Herm has nine dog-friendly self-catering cottages, including all our premium cottages (Fisherman’s, Bramble, Primrose and Rosaire), and eight dog-friendly hotel rooms at The White House Hotel. Dogs are NOT permitted on the campsites.
No more than two dogs are permitted in each cottage or hotel room. However, dependent on the size of the dogs and by approval from our reservations team, three dogs may be acceptable in the larger cottages.

Travel to Herm with Dog(s)
Dogs on leads are welcome on the short ferry crossing from Guernsey with Travel Trident . Please check their website for sailing updates.
If you are travelling from the UK dogs are permitted to travel to Guernsey from the UK or Isle of Man without a Pet Passport.
BY SEA: Condor Ferries sail daily from Jersey, Poole or Portsmouth. Further information can be found on their travelling with pets page.
BY AIR: Aurigny permits the carriage of pet dogs (minimum age 8 weeks) in the aircraft hold on the Southampton – Guernsey route. Please see their website for full details. By prior arrangement, registered assistance dogs are able to travel on all Aurigny Air service flights.
Dogs in Restaurants and Bars
Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times in public areas. They are welcome in the Mermaid Tavern and courtyard, The Ship Inn bar and courtyard, and the hotel reception and lobby. They are also welcome in the hotel gardens, but not the pool area.
Dogs are only permitted in the first section of the Conservatory Restaurant nearest the hotel reception under the manager’s discretion and only if the restaurant is quiet.
The Monk’s Bar and lounge is a dog-free area.
If you are a guest at The White House Hotel, you may prefer to have your breakfast and dinner served in The Ship Inn bar if you want to keep your dog with you.
Dogs on Beaches
May 1st – September 30th: Dogs are not permitted on Shell Beach, Belvoir Bay, Fisherman’s Beach or Hotel Beach in front of The White House Hotel (1, 2, 3 & 4 on the below map)
They are however permitted on Bear’s Beach (next one along from Fisherman’s near the Herm Common, or on Moissonniere which runs along the north coast of the island (5 & 6 on the map)
October 1st – April 30th: Dogs are permitted on all of Herm’s beaches.
Dogs on leads
Please keep dogs on leads in the more populated areas of the island, throughout the harbour village, and around Manor Village at the top of the hill, where there are children and free-range chickens. Please do not allow your dogs to chase any wildlife.
We respectfully remind all dog owners to please clear up after your dogs. Pick up and dispose of dog waste in the GENERAL waste bins located around the island (Herm has no specific dog waste bins)
