Events on Herm Island

Herm Island is home to many diverse, interesting and enjoyable events which are easy to get involved with. Forthcoming events such as real ale and cider festivals, musical events, sporting events, yoga and wellbeing retreats, island discovery events and shopping trips will be highlighted on these pages. Herm Fun Run
Wednesday 22nd May 2019 - 3-5pm HERM GUIDED WALK An Introduction to Herm

Join Herm resident and silver accredited guide, Lesley Bailey on a walking tour and general introduction to Herm. Lesley has lived in Herm since 1995 so shares a personal insight into a unique lifestyle of living on a beautiful but tiny island. As part of the tour, discover how previous tenants have helped create Herm’s colourful history. The island has been home to Neolithic man, farmers, quarry men and a Prussian prince.

Meet by the restored crane near Herm harbour.
Cost £10 per person.
Please wear footwear suitable for rough terrain.

Herm Island Gift Shops are hosting YooHoo meet & greet events all week from Monday 27th – Friday 31st May from 1.45 – 3.45pm each day, to celebrate the arrival of this great new brand in-store.

Tuesday 28th May 2019 - 11am-1pm HERM GUIDED WALK The Three Peak Challenge

Join Herm resident and silver accredited guide, Lesley Bailey who will lead you up and down the three peaks towards the north of Herm. Whilst tackling the peaks, hear about life on Herm during the 1800s. Who wanted to establish a penal colony on Herm? Who created a golf course on the common? Who lived on Herm for just a few months because they didn’t find the climate and surroundings suitable for a permanent settlement?

Length of walk: 2.5 miles
Ability: Ramble

Meet by the restored crane near Herm harbour. Please wear footwear suitable for rough terrain.

Herm Fun Run
Thursday 30th May, 2019 - 7pm - 10.45pm MERMAID TAVERN QUIZ NIGHT

The Mermaid is getting her thinking cap on and delivering you a great quiz night on Thursday May 30th in aid of Guernsey Mind. With mixed rounds of questions set and compered by quiz masters Jim & Jake Delbridge and a tasty Mermaid supper of hot sharing platters, this promises to be a fun and brain teasing evening.

Quiz will take place from 7.45pm – 10pm
Please enter in teams of six.
1st Prize – Mermaid voucher – supper for six.
2nd Prize – 6 bottles of wine (2 red, 2 white, 2 fizzy)
Price – £15 per head
(please pay on arrival and note this does not include boat fare)

Boats depart Guernsey 5.15pm or 7pm, return 10.45pm
Boat fare: £13.50 or £11.50 on 7pm sailing with £1 from each ticket going to Guernsey Mind.

Join Herm resident and silver accredited guide, Lesley Bailey to learn about the royal and famous who have visited Herm over the past 100 years. From Prince Blucher to Prince Charles, Cliff Richard and Compton Mackenzie, discover stories of those who have made their mark on the tiny island.

Length of walk: 2 – 3 miles
Ability: Ramble

All you need is family or friends, great food & good music..

Join Herm resident and silver accredited guide, Lesley Bailey who will take you on a low tide walk along the west coast of Herm. Forage on the sea shore, see what lives below the high tide line and visit the oyster beds. Enjoy exploring Herm from a different angle.

Ability: Moderate

4 - 9 June 2019 Ale & Cider Festival The Mermaid Tavern

An array of Ales and Ciders from around the Channel islands and the UK PLUS extensive gin menu, wine and Champagne bar. Live music will be playing in the Mermaid courtyard every evening from Wednesday – Saturday.

Sunday 23rd June 2019 SUMMER SOLSTICE SUNDAY at Belvoir Bay

Belvoir Bay cafe will remain open until 8pm on Summer Solstice Sunday, serving our full range of beach cafe food (no alchohol) with addtitional chilli and rice or chilli hot dogs.

Plus free use of the volleyball pitch (also available for rent throughout the summer from Shell Beach cafe)

If demand, the cafe will remain open later into the evening.
