The Mermaid Tavern

The Mermaid Tavern was named after an old cargo vessel used many years ago to carry supplies to the island.  Originally a fisherman’s pub, The Mermaid is now the social centre of the island.  Its cheerful informal atmosphere is popular all year round, especially in the busy summer months when it is open daily.

Set around a courtyard visitors can buy sandwiches and other refreshments from the snackbar or indulge in the more hearty pub meals.  The small grocery shop stocks essential provisions such as bread, milk, nappies, juices, breakfast cereals, fruit, veg, tea, coffee etc.  Guests staying on the island are able to place orders for meat and fish here.

The Mermaid also has a 50 seater restaurant and a top-deck area for functions.

Opening times do vary depending on the time of year.  The island is open from April to October and the Mermaid is open daily during this period.  From November to March there are restricted opening times, so it is best to check with the Mermaid to confirm times before you travel across.
